People of Aetherdale: Vol 1

The wraiths are newcomers to Aetherdale, which is largely inhabited by a species of highly-evolved monkeys known as "humans". Humans make for natural allies of the wraiths, as the two species have much to learn from each other, and are capable of furthering one another's objectives. In the face of an existential threat that looms over Aetherdale, this alliance could become the difference between survival and annihilation.
    
    The first act of Aetherdale's story will involve a few human characters who will prove to be invaluable friends to the player. Their creation also represents a great technical stride in my human creation process - human characters can now be made very efficiently, and the process will only improve over time.

    But without any further preamble, I introduce our human heroes of Act 1:


  • Vincent: The latest in a long, long lineage of Vincents, and a reasonably powerful wizard.This Vincent is also the mayor of a small town in the outskirts of Aetherdale called Westguard. He is curious about the origins of the wraiths, and will help them discover it if they assist him in securing his town.
  • Derbo: Once a silver-tongued swindler in the capitol, Derbo has renounced his dubious ways to run a reasonably-priced general store in the remote town of Westguard. He is good friends with Vincent, and frequently helps with administrative matters.
  • Cypress: Cypress was born and raised in Westguard, but spends more of her time in the forest, hunting, exploring, and camping. Lately she has noticed that not all seems well with the forest. The wraiths will be critical to helping her investigate, and rectify, the balance of nature.
  • Marcus: A paladin sent to the outskirts of Aetherdale to track down the infamous assassin Kyvara. His journey to track her down will put in square in the middle of matters much more concerning than his original pursuit.
  • Kyvara: Formerly a paladin, Kyvara became disillusioned with the strict tenets of the paladin order. She violently fled her old life, and would become the most lethal assassin Aetherdale has ever known. Knowledge of Light and Dark magic, as well as of the aforementioned looming threat, will make Kyvara a key player in the coming wars.
  • Ignacia: Ignacia was once Vincent's apprentice, and grew tired of his slow, overly-cautious method of teaching magic. She adopted the ways of fire magic, spurning Vincent's mentorship and setting out on her own. With her aptitude for engulfing things in flame, her help will be of great use to the wraiths.

June Development Log This will probably be a light development log, as it was a busy month outside of game work. The Ice Caves region is looking a lot better so my focus has pivoted more into developing gameplay aspects that feel as though they're lacking. There's a lot of stuff on the ground, and that's it. There's a very limited number of directions you can be attacked from, and yet there's so much space above the player at any given point. February Development Update

February Development Update No new gameplay systems this month, which maybe isn't such a bad thing. The majority of gameplay systems have been implemented, so my focus has shifted to adding new content within those systems, and polishing existing content. I have a fairly solid grasp of my long-term plan now - fortunately, it hasn't changed in any meaningful capacity since the December Development Update: Early access release with the first 3 areas and majority of gameplay systems. I plan to get to this point by (and this is the part that may change) mid-2026. Aetherdale will be available at a reduced price during Early Access, and take on its final price at the end of E.A. A span of time in Early Access used to get feedback and improve things. During this time I'll also be developing the final area and final boss. This isn't an effective strategy for completing work, but it's ideal for expanding Aetherdale's content and determining the future direction of development.
